FERTILISER
Posted on 24.03.2025 - updated on: 30.09.2025
Calcium sulphate has been used as a fertiliser for over 250 years, providing crops with essential nutrients and improving overall plant growth.
Fertilisers may be needed in soil for various reasons, including incorrect crop rotation, specific nutrient requirements of crops or grass, and the geological origin of the soil.
Every stage of crop and grass growth on UK lands suffers from significant sulphur and calcium deficiencies. The decline in coal usage for energy production has led to a 97% decrease in sulphur dioxide emissions since 1990 (DEFRA). As there is less sulphur dioxide, the amount of sulphur falling naturally in rain, commonly referred to as "acid rain" has reduce. Therefore, sulphur has now to be supplement by additional source.
BENEFITS
Natural calcium sulphate fertilisers provide a balanced supply of nutrients (as CaO and SO₃) that are indispensable elements for the process of fertilisation
Addresses the widespread sulphur deficiency in crops and grassland, by providing sulphate which is available to the plant
Also provides calcium in a soluble form which can improve soil structure
